REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at mimimum, 21 years of age
- Current Washington Teaching Certificate; Residency, Continuing, Professional OR
- Currently enrolled in a Washington State Approved Teacher Preparation or Alternative Route Program
- Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- General knowledge of several subjects
- Evidence of successful experience in working with students
- Flexibility and critical-thinking skills

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
Purpose Statement
The job of Substitute Teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a substitute teacher with specific responsibility in supporting and encouraging student success in academics; delivering group and/or individual student instruction based on lesson plans provided by the regular teacher; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; and collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues.
This job reports to Principal
Essential Functions
- Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student partipation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls.
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; and directing other persons within a small work unit. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
