MEDIA/LIBRARY RESOURCE COORDINATOR

 

Purpose Statement

The job of Media/Library Resource Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of assisting the librarian as directed in maintaining library collection at school site; implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instructing and instructing students on the proper use of the library resources.

 

This job reports to School Principal

 

Essential Functions

  • Assists students for the purpose of providing direction on the proper use of the library resources (e.g. classification system, card catalog, care of materials, etc.). 
  • Examines returned materials for damage for the purpose of ensuring the availability of library materials in good condition. 
  • Inventories library books, equipment, and materials for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining availability of materials. 
  • Maintains library in a neat and orderly fashion for the purpose of ensuring an environment conducive to learning. 
  • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance. 
  • Monitors students in library for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students. 
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance of media and in-library computer equipment (e.g. routine backups, change light bulbs, check cords, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition. 
  • Processes orders (e.g. books, periodicals, films, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining library collection controls. 
  • Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc. for the purpose of promoting the use of library resources. 
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.

Other Functions

  • Assists teachers, students, and other personnel for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments. 
  • Attends meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information to perform job functions. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: using pertinent software applications; operating standard office equipment; and adhering to legal statutes, organizational rules, etc.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Computer Software and Hardware.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

 

 

Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
