BEHAVIOR FACILITATOR

 

Purpose Statement

The job of Discipline Specialist was established for the purpose/s of supporting the instructional process by assisting with student discipline processes; communicating information to students, parents, staff, and/or other districts; ensuring compliance with financial, legal and administrative requirements; and supporting the general operation of the site location.

 

This job reports to School Principal or Assistant Principal

 

Essential Functions

  • Communicates with parents, students, staff, etc. in person, by telephone or in writing for the purpose of providing information on a variety of attendance and/or discipline issues and meeting district and state notification requirements.

 

  • Compiles data from a variety of sources (e.g. discipline, rosters, etc.) for the purpose of completing reports, ensuring current information, while complying with state and federal mandated requirements.

 

  • Coordinates assigned projects and/or processes (e.g. discipline, Parent/Teacher conference, committee meetings, agenda planners, etc.) for the purpose of providing services in line with district requirements.

 

  • Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations; providing conflict mediation; and positive discipline and guidance for students under the supervision of administration.

 

  • Maintains students' records daily by entering data into Skyward, regarding discipline infractions/actions for the purpose of documenting events and adhering to state and federal policies and procedures.

 

  • Prepares student discipline monthly reports for the disaggregation of infractions/actions, according to student populations.

 

  • Oversees In-School Suspension and coordinates assignment gathering from instructional staff to support student learning.

 

  • Prepares a variety of reports and written materials (e.g. discipline activity reports, letters to parents, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures.

 

  • Processes discipline letters/documents and materials (e.g. suspension notices, detention/work service rosters, requests for intervention, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.

 

  • Responds to calls from parents, school office staff, principals and district office personnel (e.g. discipline issues, state regulated policies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.

 

  • Supports a variety of district staff (e.g. discipline staff, school security, probation department, counselors, etc.) for the purpose of providing information regarding student discipline.

 

  • Supports site office activities (e.g. answering phones, greeting visitors, copying reports, general filing, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in completing work activities.

 

 

Other Functions

  • Attends meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information to perform job functions.

 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: conflict mediation; administering first aid; operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: business telephone etiquette; common office machines; and concepts of grammar and punctuation; and office methods and practices.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

 

 

ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; making independent decisions; adapting to changing work priorities; and working with frequent interruptions.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 10% walking, and 30% standing.  The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

 

 

 

 

Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
